Gateway to Technology courses are the lead in courses to the Project Lead The Way Engneering classes offered at the high school level. These courses were developed to introduce young people to the rewards of a career in engineering. Therefore, PLTW draws heavily on the combined skills and knowledge learned in math and science classes. Designed to be very challenging, the curriculum uses a balance of team and individual work on a progression of hands-on projects and activity-oriented learning opportunities.

GTT is available, as an elective, all three years at Hanes. Each grade level incorporates different components of GTT. Students can choose to take this course once, twice, or three times at Hanes. The five components include:

ð Design and Modeling - 6th Grade

ð Science of Technology - 6th Grade

ð Magic of Electrons - 7th grade

ð Automation and Robotics - 8th grade

ð Flight and Space - 7th grade

This year I will be teaching Design & Modeling, Flight & Space and Automation and Robotics courses. GTT will be different each time you take it. In GTT courses, you will be involved in the design/construction/programming of 3-d computer models, electrical circuits, robots, various structures (bridges, cranes, trusses), planes, rockets, cars, and much more.

There are no prerequisites to request GTT as an emcore elective. However, because of the rigorous nature of this course, students will need the recommendation of their math and science teachers and the students attendance and discipline records will also be reviewed. This year I will be teaching the Design and Modeling
