WELCOME  TO  ART  CLASS

Ms. Sammie Goodwin will be at Carter full time this year.  Although I will miss all my students at Lowrance, I am so excited to be at Carter every day this year!!  My goal for my students at Carter is to provide them with artistic opportunities that allow them to make decisions and do things for themselves.  To encourage decision making, risk taking, independence, and self expression, students need to select materials and decide how to use them.  For example, if using scissors presents a challenge for a student, my teaching assistants and I will take turns helping that student, and then let him or her try it alone.  If a student is gluing pieces of fabric down on a collage, he or she should make the decision about where to glue it.  This helps facilitate learning and independence.

The art program at Carter participates in all the WSFC School Exhibits.  We also will have the opportunity to place works of art in the Exceptional Children's Department of the central Administration Building.  These art works will be priced to sell and a portion of the money will go to the student artist!  The other portion will be put back into the art budget at Carter, so we can continue buying supplies.  If you would like your student to participate, a written consent form signed by the parent is necessary.  Students who participate will receive their money for items sold in check form at the end of each semester.  Hopefully we will put our ceramic molds to good use, and have many seasonal items for sale.
