Spanish + World Languages

Ms. Bankson

¡Hola! Bienvenidos and welcome to Spanish  and World Languages Classes. I am very excited to share my love and knowledge of Spanish, and my passion for languages and cultures from around the world.

I'm from Boston, Massachusetts, where I taught Spanish for several years. I also lived and taught in San Francisco, California. During college I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain - ¡qué maravilla! (how marvelous!). In addition to the time I spent living in Spain, I have visited several other countries, such as France, Italy, Brazil, Mexico and Australia.

There are so many opportunities to hear and speak Spanish and other languages, and to learn about the many wonderful cultures of the world. ¡Vamos a explorar juntos (Let's explore together)!

Read an overview of the Middle School Foreign Language Program for Spanish Here:

  • 6th + 7th + 8th Grade foreign language = high school Level 1 course, so students can enter 9th grade in Level 2  and can receive high school credit for Level 1 (based on final grade in the 8th grade course)
    • This means that students need to start middle school language in 6th grade because it is a sequence of courses – they should not enter the sequence after 6th grade
  • High School Level 1 credit

    • Must pass the 8th grade course with at least a C
    • 8th grade test is 25% of the final course grade
    • Level 1 credit is on the high school transcript
    • Course grade is not a part of the high school GPA
    • Can take Level 2 in high school and be finished with minimum requirement (recommended to take more courses, but not required)
    • Not required to take Level 2 as a result of receiving Level 1 credit
Click on the link to read an article about local college graduates awarded Fulbright Scholarships. Among them is a Spanish major at WFU. It is inspiring to think about what kids can do when they learn a second language.
