Ms. Karla Bennett
7th Grade Language Arts
We are now in the fourth quarter...we made it!   The students took the third quarter EOQ Tests at the end of March.  I was very pleased with the results!  Many students passed and most students improved their scores from last quarter.  This is a terrific accomplishment and I am so proud of our students!  We are focusing on Poetry this quarter.  We will be reading and analyzing various types of poems.  In addition, the students will be writing their own poems which we will compile in a little booklet.  At the end of this unit, the students will be participating in Poet-Tee Day.  I will be sending home information about this event.  The students will be transferring one of their own poems to a T-shirt.  The following day, if they wear their creative shirt to school, they will receive extra credit points.  This is a great way to encourage students to write and appreciate poetry while earning some positive recognition.  Throughout this quarter, we will also be reviewing for the EOG Tests at the end of the year.  We will be focusing on different skills and reading samples to help prepare the students for these tests.  Students are still doing Reading Logs this quarter.  They should be reading 20-30 minutes each day.  After two weeks, they will turn in their reading log (signed by a parent) and receive credit.  They will then be given another reading log for the following two weeks.
If you are not on my weekly email list but would like to be, please send me an email and I will add you to the list.  Also, the April issue of Bennett Business will be sent home after spring break. Once again, if students bring back the signed bottom portion, they will receive 5 points of extra credit.  Thank you for all of your support!  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
