My responsibility is to teach your child and to keep her/him safe both from himself/herself and from others. I will take whatever action is necessary to assure safety. I will be teaching Latin everyday including the first day and not belaboring obvious school rules that students already know. I have a very low failure rate because the majority of the students I teach understand that my class is a serious business. If your child is lazy I would suggest that they will struggle. If they do what is asked of them, they will do well.
The idea that I can "plan'' an academic year in advance makes me laugh. The public high school is a morass of various interruptions all of which are legitimate and yet make teacher adaptation imperative,if accomplishing the objectives of the class is going to be even remotely possible. This is in addition to the fact that students are absent from class frequently. I intend to teach my way through the Latin book and complete and review a series of materials that I will be giving out on day one. There will be a vocabulary quiz every week . There will be only one exam per quarter and that will be on the last possible day.
Your child will be given an assignment by me almost every day.It is their responsibility to write it down and do it outside of class. The students I am getting now are not used to this. Please alert your child and see to it that they spend time outside class doing this work. Students who actually do homework rarely struggle in class.
