Welcome to the 3rd Quarter of the 2012-13 School Year!

From the Principal's Pen....

Greetings, NWMS Falcon Family!

We finished the first semester of school and we are soaring into the second semester!  We've celebrated our Honor Roll students and our Falcon High Flyers for their hard work, dedication, and academic excellence!  Let's keep up the great work and continue our mission of building future-ready leaders and scholars at Northwest Middle School!

“Northwest Falcons are a strong and diverse family building future-ready leaders and scholars!”

We are now at the point in the school year where all of our students are planning for their next step in education!  Eighth grade students are making educated decisions about what high school they will attend and how they will finish their final year in middle school with great success in their grades and exam results.  Sixth and Seventh graders are gearing up for the next grade level by critically thinking about how they will show curriculum mastery on the EOG tests and Common Exams coming up very soon!  Faculty and staff members are finally able to settle in to their new classrooms and their new facility as we end a two and a half year construction project that is proving to be well worth the wait!  Basically, we are working well together to finish the 2012-2013 school year successfully as a strong and diverse school family!

Parents, please remember that this school year all students in North Carolina will only have one opportunity to pass the End-of-Grade Tests in Reading and Math at the end of the school year!  There will be no "retesting" if students do not score "proficient" the first time.  EOG test results will not be available until the Fall of 2013.  Therefore, it is imperative that all students give their BEST effort each and everyday in all classes to maintain excellent grades in order to be promoted to the next grade level.  Common Exams will be given along with the EOG tests and will count as 20% of the student's final grade.  Please note that we have implemented a school wide "Late Work Policy" which went into effect Monday, February 18, 2013.  We appreciate your support in making sure that your child turns in all classwork and homework on the date that it is due in each class.

Finally, please come out and volunteer in Falconland as often as possible!  We love to have our parents working side-by-side with us as we make learning, rigorous, relevant, and fun!   I look forward to seeing all of my Falcon Family members at Northwest Middle School!

Remember, always show your Falcon Pride!
