JROTC Military Ball
The Military Ball has been rescheduled to March 14. Details will follow next week.

Student Network/Internet User Agreement and Parent Permission Form
At some point this month students and parents will be asked to sign a new agreement. This will be sent home in a paper copy. A copy of this document may be seen here.
Band will have full rehearsal today after school from 3:45 until 4:45 on March 5. All band student be sure to contact parents if you have not done so.(3-5-14)
Chess Team Finishes Third in State
The Atkins HS Varsity Chess team finished 3rd in the state in the NC Scholastic Chess Championship, amassing a total of 23 points. Hunter Chen, John Henry Jackson, Luke Leahy Higgins, and Brady Richardson played on the championship division team. Jared Solomon won his division in his first-ever tournament. Other players include JC Hutchison, Reece Neff, JJ Ernest, Jake Broadus, Timothy Nixon, and Parker Williams. This contest yielded Atkins 50 out of a possible 55 Scholastic Cup points. Atkins is now FIRST place in the NCASA Scholastic Cup race with 105 points, ahead of Myers Park and Ardrey Kell. (3-10-14)
National Honor Society Field Trip Postponed
The field trip scheduled for March 3 will be rescheduled due to the weather. (3-3-14)
After-School Events on March 3 Canceled
Due to threat of bad weather, there are no after-school activities on March 3. Parents should pick up students at dismissal time. (3-3-14)

Academic Team Beats Glenn
Congratulations to the Atkins Academic Team for defeating Glenn 212 to 153 this past Wednesday. (3-4-14)

The ACT Test for all Juniors takes place on Tuesday, March 4. Students should arrive on the lower 500 hallway by 8:40 AM with picture ID and calculator. Students will complete Pre-Test sections on Friday, February 28 at 1:40 PM. All students must be present. (3-4-14)
First in the Quill
The Atkins HS Quill writing team finished FIRST in the Western Regional and will proceed to the state finals to be held at Atkins on March 22. The varsity team was made up of John Henry Jackson, Chris Perez, Meredith Hemphill, and Simone-Elise Honeycutt. Other team members included Kashaunna Goode, Lucy Brunton, and Noah Feldman.
The Scholastic Art Showcase Competition is now underway through the end of Feb. The prompts are "Showcase the Unexpected" or create a work of art inspired by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. See Ms. Blakely for competition rules and categories. Open to all Atkins students! (3-4-14)

PromThe date is May 3 from 8-12 at the Event Center. The theme is "A night to remember". Colors are purple, blue and black. The cost is $35.00 and can be paid on line or in the guidance office with Ms. Martin. (5-3-14)

It's not too late to be a part of the Chess Club and make the Team that could win this year's state chess championship. All students of any experience level are welcome to attend in Room 529 on Tuesdays from 3:45 - 5:00.
Any student bringing a smart phone, tablet, or laptop to school is strongly encouraged to install a locator app on the device to make it easier to find should it be misplaced.
