The Atkins HS Varsity Softball team won its second game of the season Friday night, defeating Bishop McGuinness 18-12 led by the arm of ace pitcher Lauren Bowman. The Camels were led by a slew of hitters, including 2 hits by Lauren Bowman and Ruth Islas, and 4 runs scored by Erin Howard, who is second in the conference in runs scored. Bowman struck out 4 and gave up only 4 hits in her second victory of the season.
In a very full weekend of academic events, the Atkins Quill team captured a fifth-place finish in very tough competition. Two team members were runners-up in their categories. Junior Tiffany Bramblett finished second in the Problem-Solution category, while Freshman Caroline Duncan finished second in Creative Writing. Other team members were John Henry Jackson and Ryan Holmes. This weekend's events, including the Quill, Science Olympiad, and Envirothon, will put Atkins far ahead in the NCASA Scholastic Cup Race.
Atkins High School will be having its Student Showcase this year in conjunction with a STEM Career Fair on April 30 at 6pm. Please come out and see some of the great work our students are doing and visit with the 20 different companies and academic departments that will set up tables at this event.
There will be a parent meeting on Thursday May 14th at 6:30 in the auditorium. All students interested in playing football in the fall should attend with their parents.
We will officially be holding Football season tryouts for Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders May 11-15 from 4-5:15 pm in the auxiliary gym at AHS.
