Project HOPE is a program offered by the WSFCS that addresses the needs of homeless children and their families through the services of a Homeless Liaison/Case Manager, Teacher Assistants, Social Worker, Transportation Assistant and Administrative Assistant.  Project HOPE began in 1996.



Goals of Project HOPE

bullet

To eliminate gaps in the school enrollment of homeless students.

bullet

To improve the attendance and academic performance of homeless students in school.

bullet

To increase the involvement of homeless parents in the education of their children and in the community service delivery system.

bullet

To provide local, state and federal advocacy on behalf of homeless children and their families.

These goals are met by Project HOPE through the services of one case manager, teacher assistant and administrative support assistant.

Program Strengths

Project HOPE addresses not only the needs of the individual student, but is inclusive of addressing the needs of the entire family.

Project HOPE continues to provide the advocacy that is needed to heighten community and school awareness of the issues faced by homeless children and their families.

Project HOPE assists teachers and other school personnel in addressing the academic, emotional and physical needs of homeless students.

In addition to providing academic assistance to homeless students, Project HOPE is a valuable resource to parents in accessing information related to the academic needs of their children and helping them become more involved in their children's education.

Project HOPE provides needed community resource information to homeless families which is helpful in such areas as securing daycare, housing, medical/dental care, etc.

bullet

Project HOPE participates as an active member of the Winston-Salem Homeless Council.

bullet Project HOPE works collaboratively with the City of Winston-Salem to serve and support homeless children and their families.
