Distance Learning North Carolina Virtual Public Schools The North Carolina Virtual Public Schools (NCVPS) was established by the North Carolina State Board of Education as an online school community for K-12 public schools. The current course offerings are targeted for high school and middle school students who need courses that are not available at their local school or for students who desire a different learning environment. All NCVPS courses are taught by certified teachers who have been trained to teach online and are teaching in their concentrated areas. North Carolina is steadily working towards having all courses taught by North Carolina certified teachers following the Standard Course of Study. Currently, some courses are taught by third-party providers: Florida Virtual or Oklahoma State University and these courses also follow the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The school system will provide the textbooks and any other materials as required by the course. Students should have access to a computer with Internet capabilities either provided by the school or from home. All NCVPS courses may be taken before school, during the regular school day, after school on campus or from home allowing the courses to fit the needs of the students. All participating schools must have a Distance Learning Advisor (DLA) and NCVPS does not require a lab facilitator for the students. Governor Easley's Learn and Earn Online Students now have the opportunity to take college courses while they are still in high school. The Learn & Earn Online program allows high school students to take online college level classes at no charge, providing the student has taken the required prerequisite courses. The Learn & Earn courses count towards the high school graduation requirements and earn college credits. All Learn & Earn Online courses are offered through UNCG iSchool Virtual Early College and/or Community Colleges. All courses are offered during the regular school day with a lab facilitator present for UNCG iSchool online courses to assist students or to deal with technology issues. Forsyth Tech does not require a specific GPA but students must meet SAT, ACT or CPT score requirements.

UNCG iSchool Scholars Program Any senior who has earned a minimum of 12 credit hours through UNCG iSchool with a UNCG GPA of 3.0 or higher will receive a certificate of achievement and an honor cord to wear at their high school graduation (with the school's permission). The GPA eligibility is calculated based upon UNCG courses alone. Courses may be taken in either the junior or senior year, or both. Students who took iSchool courses during the 2007-2008 school year as juniors can count those hours along with any courses they take this year.
