Alfred Lee Adams (1967-1969) - All-County Track & All-State Track in 1968-69. Highlights include the high hurdles and mile relay. Mr. Adams was a Junior Olympian in 1968-69 in the low hurdles. Inducted into the WS/FCS High School Sports Hall of Fame and later the WSSU Hall of Fame in 2003.
Waddell Cockerham (1965-1967) - Lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Captain of the football team in 1966-67. All City/All County Quarterback in 1966-67. All-State & All-Conference in baseball as a pitcher. Averaged 14 points in a game in basketball as a Camel.
Albert "T-Ball" Connor (1961 - 1962) - Captain of Atkins HS Basketball team (1961-62). Winston-Salem Sportsman Club's All-Star Team (1961-62). All-City, All-Conference, All-State (1961-62). NCNHSAA All-Tournament Selection 1962 (4-A). Inducted into the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
Donald F. Covington (1961-1964) - MVP in football (1964). In 1964 won the Sportsman Award, All-City/All-County, Honorary Mention. Four years on football team (1961-1964), Captain in 1964. Lettered in track (1961-1964). Captain of the track team (1963-1964). Voted MVP in the Track Sectionals (1963). Voted MVP in the Sectional and State meets (1964).
Benjamin Silas Dunovant (1959 - 1963) - Played Varsity Basketball 4 years. Played in the Negro Class 4-A Championship Basketball Team in 1962. Selected to the All-Star City/County Basketball team in 1962-63. Played Varsity Football 1961-62.
James Ross Grace (1939-1942) - Outstanding Center on the Atkins HS football team 1939-1942. Good blocker on offense and a hard tackler on defense.
Robert Hughes (1951 - 1955) - Played football and basketball at Atkins on three State-Championship Basketball teams. Played on the first state Championship team in 1953. Boxer during his years at Akins High School.
Doris Lillian Jackson (1949-1953) - Played center guard on the Girls Varsity basketball team at Atkins. Voted best All-Around Female Athlete. Played at Winston-Salem State Teachers College women's Basketball Team (1953-1957). Crowned Miss Alumni of WSSU (1970).
Earnest "Bull" Johnson (1958-1959) - Co-Captain of the 1958-1959 Atkins Varsity Football team.
Richard Murray (1948) - Shortest man on the team, but the best M1 in the state. He was sure to get yards when the coach needed a first down or touchdown.
Walter Murray (1950)- Lettered in football four years. All-City and All-Western District.
Roscoe Pouncey - Selected All-City and All-County as well as All-State Football Team (1961-1962); Captain of Football team in 1962. Selected to play in the Shrine Bowl Game (Durham, NC). Selected to the Varsity Club Four Years.
Pastor Joseph R. Samuels (1939-1942) - Played right end on the Atkins Football Team, starting all four years. Played both offense and defense and was known as a hard tackler.
Jay B. Sharp - Only Sophomore to break into the powerful all-star line-up of the 1956 Atkins High School Camels. Named All-City/All-State/All-Conference in 1958-1959. Selected to the Shrine Youth Bowl where he was named Captain and selected MVP.
Hessie Smith (1957 - 1960) - Started on footbal team three years plus four years in basketball and baseball. Named All-City Basketball (1959 & 1960). Named All-City/All-State football in 1959 & 1960. Selected to the West team for the Shrine Bowl. Athlete of the Year during his Senior year (1960).
Donald "Horse" Thomas (1956 - 1960) - Captain of the football team 1960. All-City/All-Western District football at Atkins (1960). All-State Quarterback (1960). Selected to the play in the Annual Negro Shrine Bowl (1960).
John "Bennett" Thompson (1951 - 1955) - Lettered in football and track at Atkins. Fullback on the first State Championship football team in 1953. Scored four touchdowns in the championship game. While in the service, he played on his naval base football team, voted MVP (1957).
William Hunter Vance, Jr. (1949 -1952) - Played on the football team all four years. Played basketball for four years, averaging fourteen points per game. Played on the 1951-1952 state championship basketball team.
