Ms. Carmichael's Expectations

Three Basic Rules
1)    Respect everything and everyone—that includes yourself. You are smart. Don’t sell yourself short.
2)    Be on time and prepared.
3)    No complaining/whining. If there is a problem, come up with a solution.
A Few Important Procedures
1)       When the final bell rings, you should be in your seat, ready to start class. Take a look at the monitor as you come in. Usually it will tell you what you need to prepare.

2)       Make sure you have all your materials out and ready at the start of class. Sharpen your pencil during break and have plenty of paper. Bring all your packets to class each day

3)       Work will either be passed to the front of the row or should be placed in the box when asked for. Do not place it in the box at a later point in class and expect to get full credit. It doesn’t work that way.

4)       Homework passes can be used for 10-15 point assignments, vocabulary exercises or to buy an extra day for a project or packet. Ms. Carmichael reserves the right to say homework passes cannot be used for an assignment.

5)       Packets are usually due the same day as your unit test, though they could be checked at random for a participation grade. Projects have their own due dates, determined throughout the semester.

6)       Limit your bathroom time. You have 3 bathroom allowances per quarter. Use them wisely. Keep in mind that I will usually give the class a break. If you can wait until break, do so. If you must interrupt class to go to the bathroom do not ask while I am in the middle of a discussion. Wait for an appropriate moment to ask. Unused bathroom passes are converted to extra credit at the end of the quarter.

7)       Clean up after yourself. I’m not your maid. The housekeeper is nor your maid. You are a teenager. You do not have a personal maid at school. Get over it. Clean up your own messes.

8) Do not cheat. Students caught cheating will suffer the consequences which include: calls home, trips to the office, possible zero on the assignment. This includes ALL forms of cheating, plagiarism and misrepresentation.
Homework Policy
1.            Homework (Simple assignments that are due the next day) is not accepted late. This is usually anything 20 points and under.
2.            Projects/Papers (Complex assignments that are completed over the course of 2 or more days) can be turned in up to 5 days late. Each day the assignment is late, students lose a letter grade.
Day of Amnesty
The day after progress reports/NC Wise update days is Ms. Carmichael’s “day of amnesty” meaning students may turn in missing assignments from that quarter only for reduced credit. Students cannot receive higher than a 70% on the assignment, but a 70% is 70% more than a 0%. Students receive 2 amnesty days per quarter. Late work is not accepted before or after these days.
