    Hello Parents,

     

    I hope each of the mothers had a great Mother’s Day.  We appreciate the sacrifices your give your children each day.

     

    We have Skate World on Tuesday from 6-8.

     

    Interim Reports will go home on Wednesday

     

    Spring Pictures should have gone home on Friday.  Please pay for the packet if you would like the pictures or turn them back to you the school if choose not to purchase them.

     

    If you have any friends or those you know who have students who will be 5 by August 31st. please have them register for Kindergarten.

     

    Please encourage your child to complete their homework.  We are on the final few weeks of school. 

     

    EOG testing for 3rd -5th graders will be on May 29th and 30th.

     

    I have will post the EOY Calendar WES home page by Monday afternoon.  A hard copy will go home on Wednesday.

    Hello Parents,

     

    Spring Fling will be held one week from Friday. April 26th is our big day. The big event will begin at 5 pm.  Please come and support us.

     

    I will be sending home a list of all the End-of-Year activities for you to review in the near future.  I will also post them on our website when we have finalized all dates.

     

    Continue to work to have your child at school each day and on time.

     

    I would like to invite you to the next Parent Power Event which will be held on April 18th at Atkins High School located at 3605 Old Greensboro Rd, Winston-Salem. This event will feature Dr. Gary Chapman the author of the 5 Love Languages of Children.  The event begins with registration and refreshments at 5:30 with the guest speaker, Dr. Chapman, beginning at 6 pm. The event will conclude at 8 pm.

    There will be FREE children’s activities while parents attend sessions. Please come early to get a seat

    Hello Parents,

     

     

    I hope that you and your child enjoyed the long Easter Break.  All students will report at regular time to school on Monday.

     

    Report Cards will go home of Wednesday. Please preview the report card with your child. Also, discuss the importance of working hard in class.  It is important that your child stays focused in class.  Thank you for encouraging your child to work hard during this last quarter

     

    Skateworld Night is on Tuesday from 6-8

     

    As we are approaching warm weather, please be reminded of our dress code. 

    1.No Halter or bare midriff tops, or bare midriffs;

    2.Spaghetti straps or tank tops;

    3.Strapless shirts or tube tops;

    4.Pants, slacks or jeans that sag below waist;

    5.Underpants or bras showing or worn as outerwear;

     

     

    4th grade will be going to Raleigh on Wednesday

     

    At this time, 5th grade celebration will be held on June 7th at 10 am.

    Hello Parents,

     

    Yearbook orders were due on Friday the 15th, but we will extend the deadline until Tuesday the 19th.  Any orders received after this date will not be able to get one of the packages currently offered.  We will only have standard yearbooks and will be available on a first come first serve basis while supplies last, so be sure and get your yearbook order in before its to late. 

     

    Progress Reports go home of Wednesday. Please preview the progress report with your child.

     

    Please discuss the importance of working hard in class.  It is important that your child stays focused in class.  Thank you for encouraging your child to work hard.

     

    We will have a PTA Meeting on Thursday at 6 pm.  Please come to get updates from our PTA as well as suggestions to make our school better.  We will NOT be serving supper that night. 

     

    All 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be taking the End-of-Quarter Tests this week.

    5th grade will take science end of quarter test on Tuesday

    Reading End of Quarter Test will be given on Wednesday for 3rd – 5th grades

    Math End of Quarter Test will be given on Thursday for 3rd – 5th grades

     

    Spring Break will begin on March 28-April 5.  All students will return on April 8th.

    Hello Parents,

     

    Here is your Walkertown ES update for the week:

     

    Thank you for all who came out to our Reading Night on Thursday.  We had over 54 visitors at our school during the day on Thursday. 

     

    Our annual Jump Rope For Heart contest will be held on Wednesday  March 13th for grades 1st through 5th . Please remember if your child wants to participate, they must donate $1.00 or more and have the signed(parent or guardian) permission form and or course appropriate shoes and clothing.

     

    Skate World on Tuesday from 6-8

     

    Please remember our PTA Meeting on March 21st.

     

    The K-2 Career Day is scheduled for Friday, March 15th from 8:00am until 10:30am.  Students will be learning about a variety of different jobs and careers in our community.  This will be an exciting career-focused morning for our K-2 students.

    Our Spring Fling will be held on April 26th. 

     

    On a side note, I how that you moved your clock forward 1 hour as we recognized Daylight  Savings Time.  Also, please make sure you check the batteries in your smoke detectors as well.

  • Reading: Making A Difference

    Good Evening Parents

     

    This is Barbara Cohen the Principal Intern at Walkertown Elementary. I am excited to tell you about our Reading Event tomorrow at the School.

     

    From 9-2 we will have visiting authors, school board members and even a   Kamishibai storyteller visiting our school.  The mayor of Walkertown will be issuing a proclamation that sets aside this day each year as Walkertown, Let’s Read to Make a Difference day. We invite you to stop by the school tomorrow

     

    Then tomorrow night from 6-730 We will have a huge parent event with teachers hosting mini workshops about teaching parents strategies to help your children become better readers. The Parent Event starts at 6pm in the Gym and then you will go with your child’s teacher to their classroom for the mini workshops.

     

    The media center/ library will be open for you to check out books and the computer lab will be open for you to learn about internet resources to help your child be a better reader.

     

    Also don’t forget there are several Walkertown restaurants that are sponsoring us tomorrow night and a percentage of their profits will go towards purchasing books for the school. A flyer was sent home today with your student listing the restaurants.

     

    We really hope that you will attend tomorrow and we want you to know that we are committed to making a difference in your child’s life.

    Update on the Jump Rope For Heart Campaign: We will extended donations to be turned in to Friday, March 8th.  We appreciate your support. If we raise $14, 000, I will dress up as a Chicken and do a Chicken Dance for the student body. 

     

    Do not forget our Reading to Make A Difference Day and Night on March 7th.  You will have an opportunity to read to classes, take a tour of the school, and many other activities. 

                                       

    Please remember our PTA Meeting on March 21st.

     

    Our Spring Fling will be held on April 26th. 

     

    We will have our Tornado Drill on March 8th around 9:30 am.  We will review procedures with your child on Thursday.  We will not have our Drill on March 6th as other districts may due to many of our 5th grade students in the county attending a Mary Sterling Concert that day.

    Hello Parents,

     

    Here is your Walkertown ES update for the week:

     

    Friday’s snow day will be made up on June 11th.

     

    All Pre-Kindergarten: Preschool applications for the 2013-2014 school year are now available and can be picked up at our school during school hours.  These will be available until March 15th and completed applications are to be returned to the school with the necessary documents.  After March 15th, applications can be downloaded from the Smart Start website at www.smartstart-fc.org.  Children must be 4 years of age by August 31, 2013 in order to attend preschool for next year.  Those completing applications will be called by mid-April to come in for a developmental screening. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our school.

    McDonald’s Night is on Tuesday from 5-8.  Please come out and support us.

    March 1st is Read Across America Day. I hope you will take time to talk to your child about the importance of reading.

    Please help us by making sure that your child is completing their homework.

    Hello Parents,

    We will have a Rachel’s Challenge Assembly for all students on Monday. This assembly creates awareness of bullying and the effects of it.

     

    We are in the beginning stages of our Jump Rope for Heart Campaign. Please encourage your child to raise money for t his great cause.  If we raise $14, 000, I will dress up as a Chicken and do a Chicken Dance for the student body. 

     

    Please help us by making sure that your child is completing their homework.

     

    Many of you received a yearbook form that indicated that you would be purchasing a Hardback cover.  Unfortunately, this was a mistake by Lifetouch.  Our yearbooks will be soft cover as they have been in the past. If this is a problem, we will give you a full refund.

    Hello Parents,

     

    Here is your Walkertown ES update for the week:

     

    Jazzy Jumpers will be at our school on Monday for a school-wide assembly to kick off our Jump For Heart Campaign.  Stay tuned to for more information in regards to fun prizes our students can win through this campaign.

     

    Many of you received a yearbook form that indicated that you would be purchasing a Hardback cover.  Unfortunately, this was a mistake by Lifetouch.  Our yearbooks will be soft cover as they have been in the past. If this is a problem, we will give you a full refund.      

     

    We celebrated our 100 day of school last Wednesday with all of our 1st grade teachers receiving a pie to the face.
