• Great news! 
     The long wait is (almost) over!  Letters with information about bonuses have been sent to principals at bonus-pay schools.  These letters should be distributed to staff by tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1.  If there are any questions or concerns, please contact Janet Somers or Sally McCombs as soon as possible.  In order for the bonus to be paid in the March paycheck, the information must go to payroll this week.  Thank you all for your hard work and patience.  Special thanks to Janet Somers and Justin Long for their diligence!
     
    IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are no longer working at the school you were with last year, make sure that your former principal has a forwarding address for you.  The letters are delivered to the school where you worked in the 2014-2015 school year.  If you haven't received your letter by Thursday, March 3, please contact us with a forwarding address. 
     
     Incentive Pay Update: 

    We received the data from SAS at the end of January.  Once the data is here, we begin to put it into our spreadsheets to determine who qualifies for the various bonuses (whole school, grade level, individual teacher, etc.)  It's fairly complex and they are in the process of doing that right now.


    As soon as they have the final results, we will generate and send letters to all eligible staff, letting them know whether or not they have qualified for a bonus.  We try to get those letters out 2 weeks before the actual bonuses are paid, to give staff time to ask questions and correct any possible errors.


    Finally, the bonuses will be paid in the first paycheck that it's practical to apply it to.


    Having said all that, we're shooting for the March paycheck, though I really can't guarantee anything until it's actually done.  Glitches can happen at any moment that would hold us up.

    Please know that we at STAR3 and Accountability all hate the fact that teachers and staff have to wait so long for their bonuses and we're making it our top priority to get this done as quickly as possible.

    INCENTIVE PAY FOR THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR:  The incentive pay bonuses earned during the 2014 - 2015 school year will be calculated when the data is received, hopefully in the Fall of 2015.  They will be paid as soon as is possible!  The plan is to pay them during the second quarter of the school year.  However, all student assessment data is sent to SAS Institute.  (This is true for all districts in N. Carolina's public schools.)  The final measures of growth are returned to school districts typically (but not always) in November.  No bonus pay can be calculated or paid until this information is returned from SAS Institute.
     
    The bonus system has not changed over the course of the grant.  The incentive (bonus) payments are based on student growth.  While we hope many teachers will qualify, it is clear that not all teachers will.  
     
    Educators in the incentive pay schools can expect that the bonuses will be paid using the same format as in the past.   A letter will be sent to the staff at each of the incentive pay schools as soon as the calculations are made so that all staff are able to ask questions prior to the payment of the bonuses.  (A contact person will be listed on that letter.)
