Students enrolled in this course have successfully completed
Level III at the middle or high school or have placed out of Levels I-III due
to previous language study and/or established proficiency. A major focus of Level IV is on the reading
of authentic texts with grammar taught in context of the readings. Latin IV is
based on authentic Latin poetry.
Students will explore the Golden Age poets Ovid and Vergil. AP Latin covers Vergil’s Aeneid the first
semester and Caesar’s Gallic War the second.
Emphasis is placed on figures of speech, analysis, and essay writing.
There is more in-depth study of the Roman culture and its influence throughout
the world, as well as the student’s own culture. Students are able to connect
the language to other disciplines and compare it to their own language.
