World History - Seminar
This course explores everything from prehistory to current events. Our studies will include historical events, culture, geography, government, and economics. Within that framework, we will develop skills that are useful in academia and other jobs. Points of emphasis for skill building are literacy, critical thinking, and creativity. Seminar classes feature honors-level rigor, where a paper's minimum may be three pages as opposed to one page. Seminar classes may also feature AP-level writing prompts on occasion, such as "Analyze continuities and changes in Rome's political and civic nature from circa 750 BCE to 476 CE." These difficult prompts will prepare students for more challenging courses in high school. 9th graders should take Seminar World History if they had success in history at the middle school level (a high B or A) and enjoy discussion.
