2016 Marching Bobcat Half-time shows
We're trying something different with our half-time show this year. Where in the past we put together a single competitive show, this year we are going to do multiple shows over the course of the marching season. These shows will not be related and can stand on their own, or be performed in combination with another show.
Here's how it will work.
During band camp we will learn show #1. This show will be either a Dance team or Colorguard feature where the band will not march, but stand still and play while the dance team and/or colorguard perform in front of the band. The reason we start with this show is because we should be able to learn it quickly, since there is no marching and our first football game is two weeks after the start of band camp.
Once we have show #1 performance ready we will start rehearsing show #2. This will be music from the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean." The band and colorguard will learn marching drill and music for this show. Once it's ready to perform we will perform show #2 along with show #1. Then we will learn show #3.
Once we start performing show #3 (Undecided what it will be) we will learn show #4 and so on and so forth until the end of the season.
At Band Jamboree and our competition here at Glenn we will perform all of our shows.
This is a format that is used by many non-competitive high school bands and most colleges. It will be an exciting new way to learn a lot of different shows. It will also keep us from getting bored of playing the same old music every week.
I'm certainly not saying that we will never compete again, but I do know that I'm ready to try something different. I hope you're excited about the possibilities this opens us to continue our mission to educate and entertain. If you have and questions, or suggestions, let me know!
