Project HOPE-Families in Transition
Project HOPE, Families in Transition, is a program offered by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Project HOPE is dedicated to ensuring that all children and young people experiencing homelessness have access to the educated services to which they are entitled under the federal McKinney-Vento Act.

McKinney-Vento Basics
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act includes the Education of Homeless Children and Youth Program (McKinney-Vento ).This federal law requires schools to remove barriers for students experiencing homelessness.

Rights of Eligible Children and Youth
- Right to immediate school enrollment even when records are not present
- Right to remain in the school of origin, if in the student's best interest
- Right to receive transportation to and from the school of origin
- Right to receive support for academic success
