My name is Mr. Vasilos and this will be my first year at Atkins High School. I grew up in Winston Salem, and received my Bachelor’s Degree in English from Wake Forest University. Following that, I earned my Master’s Degree in English from UNC-Greensboro. Since then, I have spent over two years teaching English in South Korea.
I am extremely grateful and excited to be teaching at Atkins this year. The school’s reputation as a leader in diversity and academics in the area is most appealing to me, and I look forward to being able to contribute to the culture of the school. English is one of my great passions in life, and I relish the opportunity to share that with my students. In my classroom, I strive to create a space for open communication and a free exchange of ideas.
While obtaining my undergraduate degree, one of my professors told the class that “it doesn’t matter what you have to say, if you can’t communicate well, no one will hear you.” Clear communication will be a key focus of the school year. We will explore various methods of communication throughout the year in an effort to better prepare the students for the future. English is vital in that it can be beneficial in so many fields. I feel very fortunate to have the chance to help guide the students in this regard, and I am so looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started. Finally, thank you for the opportunity to teach your children and for all the help you provide at home.
