    Mr. Lloyd Calvin Strachan

My name is Mr. Strachan, pronounced “Strawn”, and I am happy to be serving as your CTE Project Lead the Way Instructor for 2019 – 2010. I will be teaching Intro to Engineering (IED) and Digital Electronics (DE) this school year.

I was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. I attended James B. Dudley High in Greensboro, and graduated from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (NC A&T) with a degree in Electrical Engineering. I also have a Masters of Arts in Education – Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Phoenix Online.

Upon graduating from NC A&T, I went to work for the former Carolina Power & Light Company (now Duke Energy), a public utility headquartered in Raleigh, NC. My experience includes the installation, maintenance, and operations of telecommunications equipment including two-way radio systems, microwave systems, fiber-optic systems, telephone systems, and data systems. After 25 years in the utility industry, I was outplaced on October 11, 2001, exactly one month following the 911 Incident.

I transitioned into the world of teaching in August 2002, starting in Guilford County at Dudley High (my alma mater). I have also had the opportunity to teach at Carver High (2010 – 2012), Page High in Guilford County (2012 – 2014), and now Atkins High. I am truly excited about the opportunity to serve the students at Atkins and to be working in a STEM environment.

I have been married to Carolyn Mintz-Strachan, a high school sweet-heart for nearly 34 years. We have one daughter, Camille (31), presently serving as the lead pediatrician at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, NM. She is married to Aaron Forte and they presently have one infant son, Carson, and two dogs named Charlie, a “Yorkie” and “Ace” a shepard mix.
