Report cards will be issued after each of the four nine-week periods. Per WSFCS/ Atkins policy, progress in Health Science is indicated by letter grades as follows:
A - Superior Performance - 90-100
B - Good Performance - 80-89
C - Satisfactory Performance – 70-79
D - Poor Performance but Passing – 60-69
F - Failure (59 and below)
The above grades will be derived as follows:
20% Knowledge as evidenced by the state post assessment.
40% First Quarter:
Skills, knowledge and products generated individually and with team members. For Nursing Fundamentals per state rule, there are over 60 skills which must be demonstrated at 100% before students can go to clinical at the beginning of second quarter.
40% Second Quarter:
Health Science II: Skills, knowledge and products generated individually and with team members.
Nursing Fundamentals: Students provide evidence of skills transfer to a real long term care facility and clinic. They demonstrate 100% accuracy on 15 -24 skills and compassionate and diligent patient care. When clinical is finished there is a cumulative project and finals practice tests. As this is an actual clinical class that adheres to changes medical best practice, requirements can be added by the state at any time.
Attendance is very important. Health Science II and Nursing Fundamentals involve many hands on skills which must be graded by being observed by the teacher. Additionally, though I will give alternate assignments if needed, the learning experience of group work and class discovery can’t be replicated outside the classroom.
