Hi and Welcome to My Classroom!
I Love Teaching!
My Name is Catherine Plaster. Let me begin by telling you a little bit about myself.
I have worked with children for many years. I started out teaching four year old students in a preschool environment and then returned to Salem College, where I received my Psychology degree and then also graduated from their Teaching Certification program in May of 2006. I then began my search for a position in the WSFCS system and was blessed to find a home here at Griffith Elementary as a new third grade teacher during the 2008-09 school year. I was offered the opportunity to expand my experience with a move to the Fifth Grade this past year and I truly loved the new curriculum and experiences that this offered. I firmly believe that we all are placed where we are needed and can be the most useful for the children. This new experience has been an excellent opportunity to learn and grow with my students. I am currently at Salem College working hard toward my Master's Degree in Reading and Literacy. I want to do this so that I can bring the very latest information to the classroom when it comes to teaching your children how to master the art of Reading and Writing. Being an excellent reader is so important to master any of the curriculum requirements in today's more academically challenging environment. I will be excited to bring new and innovative ideas back into my classroom as I learn this year.
I am the mother of two wonderful boys, Matt and Sam. Matt is married to my sweet daughter-in-law Carlyn and they have my precious grandbaby girl, Salem Ruth, who just turned one in June of this year. They live in Lewisville, NC, just down the road from Grandma's house! Matt works for East Coast Trailer in Mocksville, NC, and Carlyn is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Technician for a local Cardiovascular Surgeon here in Winston-Salem. Sam is currently working in the custom automation industry as a welder and parts fabricator, for my brother, at Trimantec, Inc., here in Winston-Salem. I am also an ocean-lover and would one day love to retire by the sea. My family, and extended family (my Mom, sister, brother, and their precious families), are the joy of my life along with the joy that I find in my life's work - teaching!
As your child's teacher, I take responsibility for helping to prepare them for a lifetime of learning. I will do my best to make sure that they receive enriching and need-specific instruction that incorporates the North Carolina State Standards for Fifth Grade. I believe in making education fun and engaging for all students. You will be able to contact me any time you have questions or concerns by calling the school office at (336)703-4245, and leaving a message for me, or by email, at email@example.com. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child's academic career.
With Love and Sincere Appreciation,
