Building Student Literacy through Self-Selected Reading (SSR) at KMSEach morning at KMS, all students and staff partcipate in SSR. Students have the opportunity to self-select something of their choice to read during this time. Classrooms are quiet and hallway movement is minimal. Students will also conference with staff periodically to share what they are reading.Daily Schedule7:25 - 7:45If students read more and enjoy it more, they will become better readers. As they read each day, they encounter new words, usage, sentence structures, and ideas. Each day adds to their total overall reading experience. With increased practice, reading becomes easier and, more importantly, more enjoyable. SSR also allows an adult to model the habits, choices, comments, and attitudes good readers develop. The ultimate goal is to create lifelong readers.
