This year's Middle School STEM Camp Registration is closed!!!
If you are already registered for this year's camp and did not receive an e-mail from Mr. Hamilton, please click HERE to read the contents of the e-mail and fill out the form verifying that you have read the permission slip and safety contract.
Each year Atkins High School hosts a Middle School STEM Exploration Camp. This camp is for current 7th graders (rising 8th graders over the summer) only!
The total cost is $160 per student. As mentioned above, this year's registration is closed. We do plan on hosting another camp next year. If you have a current 6th grader interested in STEM, you can be making plans for the Summer of 2018.
Typical Camp Activities
This camp will include engineering, game design, and biotechnology activities. While we cannot guarantee each activity for every year, many activities are duplicated from year to year. In the past we have taken field trips to Forsyth Tech, and the Joint Center for Nanoscience and NanoEngineering to see an overview of their programs. In addition, students have constructed water bottle rockets & gliders, learned how to use 3-D software for engineering and scientific visualization, designed 2-D video games, and performed a variety of laboratory activities including extracting DNA from cells and using chemical techniques to identify solution types.
The 2017 camp will run from Monday, July 10th to Thursday, July 20th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
WE WILL NOT HAVE CAMP ON FRIDAY, JULY 14TH due to the fact that all WSFCS buildings are closed on Fridays during the summer.
Future camps will likely have similar dates, typically starting on the Monday following the Fourth of July.
