Welcome to Music at KES!
Students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth grade visit music once a week. In music, students enjoy a variety of musical experiences including: singing, playing instruments (unpitched/pitched percussion in k-2, recorders in 4-5), moving to and describing music, reading and writing musical notation, and dramatizing songs and stories. Music lessons often incorporate literacy, math, science, or social studies concepts being learned in the regular classroom.
There are three musical performances each year in conjunction with PTA meetings. Typically, students perform when they are in kindergarten, second and fourth grades. In addition, fifth grade students have the opportunity to audition for All-County Chorus in the spring. Fifth graders also visit the Winston-Salem Symphony each year, where they participate in an interactive concert which includes playing, singing, and dancing.
