MODEL UN ADVISORS – Mrs. Elizabeth Weide (meweide@wsfcs.k12.nc.us) and Mrs. Samantha Crews (sbrichards@wsfcs.k12.nc.us)
About: Model United Nations is a simulation of a United Nations Council in which high school students meet at a college/university and focus on international current events, conflict resolution, negotiation, and debate. We will meet in Room 406 on the first Wednesday of each month. Information to be communicated via Remind. All meetings will include opportunities for discussion. We will continue with the country of the week, where we highlight different countries around the world, such as fun facts, recipes, etc. to share. We will also prepare for conferences, participate in a service project, and communicate with students in other countries. If any members have other ideas we can consider those as well!
Overview:
- Student “delegates” debate real-life issues currently facing countries around the world
- The goal is to promote international cooperation to resolve these issues.
- Model UN is not just for students interested in International Relations! Participating students often go on to be leaders in politics, law, business, education, medicine, and more!
Conferences:
- Join us on Thursday, November 3rd for the Model UN Conference at Appalachian State University!
- Student pairs will represent one country on the UN Security Council to discuss current issues with other high school students at the conference.
