Graduation Information for Seniors
Parents, information on this page is not listed in chronological order. Please make sure you read the entire document so that your senior and you do not miss important deadlines.
Graduation will be held on June 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex, located just east of LJVM. Parents, guests, and students will enter through Gate 7 and park in the Midway Parking Lot. This lot will also be the overflow parking lot for schools graduating in LJVM Friday evening.
Students should be inside the Fairgrounds Annex and ready to line up at 6:00 p.m. Students will enter through the back of the building near the parking lot. Parents and guests will enter through the main entrance at the front. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. No one will be admitted without a ticket. Children old enough to walk will need a ticket. The number of tickets we received matches the number of seats in the Annex, so anyone requiring a seat must have a ticket. Graduation programs will be provided to adults.
There will be two graduation practices. Seniors are expected to attend both. The first will be held in the Atkins small gym at 12:40 pm on Wednesday, June 5. All seniors are expected to go to first lunch on this date and then report to the small gym. This practice may take the rest of the school day.
The second practice will take place at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm on Thursday, June 6. Seniors, junior marshals, and the JROTC Color Guard are expected to attend. These students will be dismissed at 3:25 on June 6. Students may drive themselves to the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex or they may ride an activity bus. Parents of students who are not driving themselves to practice are expected to pick up students promptly at 5:30 pm in front of the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex. We will not provide school bus transportation back to the school at 5:30. Parents may not attend the practice.
Senior Awards Ceremony
The Senior Awards Ceremony will take place on May 20, 2019. The program will start at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. All students who are participating are expected to dress appropriately (business casual). Students should adhere to the school district dress code, however, in addition no jeans, flip flops, or shorts will be allowed.
Practice for Senior Awards Ceremony
Please be present on Friday, May 17th. We will practice for the Awards Ceremony during the end of 3rd period through 4th period that day. Your attendance is vital. Graduation tickets will be distributed during rehearsal (10 per student). Note: Seniors who are failing classes or who still owe fees will not be allowed to attend the practice session. Graduation tickets (ten per student) will be distributed at this practice session. Students owing fees will receive tickets once fees are paid. Junior Marshals will receive two tickets each.
The senior picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Seniors will come to school as usual and report to 1st period. After announcements and attendance has been taken, students will be dismissed to the auditorium. Following the Returning Camels student panel, seniors will be transported to and from the picnic site by activity buses. Students are not allowed to drive to Senior Picnic. Any senior driving to the picnic will forfeit the right to participate and will be asked to return to school.
We will return to school by the end of the school day so that students who need to can ride the school bus home. Students do not have to dress in SMOD but must adhere to school district dress code – no tank tops or midriffs, and no jeans with holes.
Please note: In order to participate in the senior picnic, students must be making adequate progress in all of their courses. In other words, they must be passing all courses. Therefore, any senior who is failing a course as of May 14th will not be allowed to attend the senior picnic. Students who are not making adequate progress will be informed by May 17th that they may not attend the senior picnic. In addition, all debts to the school must be paid by May 20 in order to attend the senior picnic.
Decoration of Hats for Graduation
The tops of hats may be tastefully decorated depicting future plans such as college or military after high school. Decorations must lie flat on the hat. If in doubt, seek clarification from Mr. Childers. It is better to be safe than sorry. Students whose hats do not follow these guidelines will be pulled from the graduation lineup.
Cords at Graduation
Students may wear cords from honor societies or other school-recognized activities. Other cords, such as Eagle Scout cords, may be allowed. Please ask.
