    Carla Parker joined the Wake Forest Spots Medicine - Certified Athletic Trainer program in March of 2018 as the "floater" to assist with coverage needs at all high schools in forsyth county. She stepped in as Head Athletic Trainer at Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy in November of 2018. Since coming to Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy she has worked hard to improve the athletic training room to better serve the athletes and has worked to improve operations at the school by putting policies in place to make sure things are handled the right way. 

    Carla is a graduate of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania's Masters in Athletic Training program. She also completed her undergraduate work locally at UNC Greensboro graduating with a Bachelors in Kinesiology with a concentration in sports medicine. .

    Carla is a native of Browns Summit, NC and attended Western Alamance High School where her love of athletic training was sparked. 

    Carla is often assisted by Steve Garner LAT, ATC who works with Novant Health and attends all football games and all home basketball games. Jay Carlton also assists Carla as a first responder he also attends all football games and home basketball games if possible as he is also one of the track coaches.

    Dr. Thornton serves as the medical director for the partnership between WSFCS and WFBH. Thornton helps coordinate physician coverage for football games in the fall and other events throughout the year as needed, including WFBH Annual Free Sports Physical Day. Dr. Thornton is also the team physician for Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy and attends all home football games. 

    Dr. Thornton earned his bachelors degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1996 before getting is Medical Doctorate from Medical College of Virginia in 2000. He completed residencey's at Riverside Hospital and NC Baptist Hospital in 2003 and 2004 respectively. He is board certified in Family and Sports Medicine.
