Serving as president of the PTSA includes the responsibility to lead the PTSA toward specific goals chosen by its members. The goals must be consistent with the policies and Purposes of the PTA. The president is the presiding officer and the official representative of the association.

    The President shall preside at all meetings; perform such other duties as may be prescribed in the bylaws and assigned by the association or the Executive Board; coordinate the work of the officers and the committees of the association in order that the objectives may be promoted; and shall be a member ex officio of all committees, except the nominating committee.

    Time Commitment: Meetings; Meeting Prep; Event/Activity Planning & Attendance (approx. 15 hours per month).
    Duration: 1 year term; year-round commitment.
    Important Dates: PTSA meetings - Every second Monday of the month from August through May of the current school year from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 6:30 p.m. Additional meetings, events, and activities deemed appropriate by the association.
    Accountable To: General Body/Executive Board
    Ongoing: Attend all meetings, prepare agenda, work with committees in charge of scheduled activities, and confer with principal regarding plans for the year and progress toward set goals. Recruit chairs and committee members.

    Attend workshops offered by council or district PTA and urge incoming board members to attend.

    Review all material received from previous President and familiarize yourself with the Bylaws.

    Coordinate with Treasurer to have the signature cards for bank accounts updated with new officers and submitted to the bank.

    Prepare a master calendar that includes Board meetings, General Membership meetings, and PTSA special events.

    Prepare contact information for board and committee members.

    Assist Treasurer in developing a proposed budget.


    Facilitate Orientation and Open House preparations.

    Attend Staff Breakfast-tasks=serve staff, clean up, brief comments.

    Attend Orientation and Open House-tasks=recruit, speak about PTSA membership.

    September: Conduct first General PTSA meeting. Present budget for approval.
    October: Represent Hanes Middle School PTSA at WSFC PTA Fall Banquet.
    December: Conduct second General PTSA meeting.
    February: Ensure Nominating Committee is recruiting.

    Conduct third General PTSA meeting.

    Represent Hanes Middle School PTSA at WSFC PTA Spring Recognition Event.

    June: Facilitate Transition Meeting.
