Thank you to everyone who made the Konnoak's Got Talent Show a huge success on Friday. We had a great time celebrating the gifts and talents of all our contestants and staff performances.  Congratulations to all winners and participants and the Magnet Leaders who facilitated the show.

Our 5th graders will take their Science Quarterly Assessment on Tuesday, Feb. 4th. Please help us have 100% attendance so students can come and show what they have learned this quarter and how much they have grown.

We need to see every family on Wednesday, February 5 for our Student-Led Conferences and Chinese New Year Celebration.  Conferences will be held from 5-6pm for you to drop in, unless you schedule another time with your child's teacher. You will receive Report Cards at this conference. After this, families can go to the Chinese Culture and Arts stations until 5:45pm. Then all families are invited to join us for a traditional Chinese Dinner in the cafeteria at 5:45 and finishing the evening enjoying Chinese traditional performances that help us celebrate Chinese New Year or Spring Festival. Come join us for this great celebration as a part of our Magnet School Chinese Immersion Program.

Parents, please remember that we have Club Konnoak on Thursday with a 4pm pick-up time.

We will have our Academic Awards Assemblies on Friday, February 7th at the following times:
    2nd and 3rd Grade will be 8:45-9:45am
    Kindergarten/First and Multi-grade will be 9:50-10:50 and
    4th and 5th Grade will be 10:55-11:55am.
Please sign in at the office to attend and support your child.

Lastly, February 7 is the 100th day of school. We ask all students and staff to wear wear something that shows the number and value of 100. This could be 100 items collected, 100 items on a shirt or ways to make the number 100. Be creative.
Have a happy SuperBowl Night and may the best team win.

Please remember at Konnoak Elementary School success, achievement and growth are our only options. Anything less than our absolute best is unacceptable. Thank you, Cardinal Nation.

    Greetings, Cardinal Nation,
This is Dr Burnette with this week's announcements. Thanks to all families, Mr. Overholt, Mrs. D and the Science Committee, the Teacher Presenters and students for making our Title I Family Science Night a success last Thursday. Many of our 2nd-5th grade students have started thinking of ideas to get to work on their projects so they have plenty of time to research, collect data, conduct their experiment and prepare their science boards by the November deadline. If you need help or have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher or to Mrs. D, our Instructional Facilitator, for assistance. Families can come in on Wednesday afternoons at 3:20pm for help with ideas and resources.

We also wanted to thank the Winston-Salem Police Department for selecting Konnoak for their High Five Friday visit last week. It was priceless watching law enforcement welcome, high five and hug students as they entered campus to wish them a happy start to their Friday. Thanks to all who showed them appreciation for visiting Konnoak on their tour.

Motivational Monday will be Think Pink Monday as we continue to honor and celebrate family, staff and friends who are or have battled cancer and are survivors, as well as those who fought the good fight. So, please join us in wearing pink Monday.

Make plans to attend our Family Fall Festival this Friday, October 25. Come enjoy trick or treating, face painting, games, good food, costume contest and the infamous Konnoak Haunted House for those who wish to enter. Family fun for all, so bring your family and friends. Trick or treating at 5:30pm and the festival fun begins at 6pm.

This week all 3rd-5th grade students will be taking their End-of-Quarter assessments and NC Checkins. Please make sure they are at school by 8:20am so we can begin on time for them to show what they have learned in the first quarter.

Also, on Friday, October 25th, we are welcoming children's author Dr. Levin "Chuck" Wilson, III to Konnoak Elementary School. He will present his children's book through a powerful assembly that teaches students that we are all different, the value of uniqueness, self-pride and how to just "Be U" to be happy and accomplish great things. The assembly will be vidoetaped and shared nationally as part of the book's promotion. Therefore, if you have a student who you do not want shown on the video, please let us know so we can seat them to avoid identifiable shots on the recording. Otherwise, we are excited to be one of Dr. Wilson's first schools to share the book and the message and we are proud to be a part of the Be U movement. Parents you are welcome to attend the assembly as well at 9am on October 25th. The author will have "Be U" items available for you to purchase and may allow pictures with the character from the story, Pierre the Penguin. You may even want to order an autographed copy of the book for your family, as I am anxious to do!

This concludes our announcements. Remember that at Konnoak success and achievement are the only options and we accept nothing less than the absolute best from each student, staff member and family member.
