School Bus Drivers

I drove a bus in another location. Does WS/FCS recognize my certifications?
Posted by:Generally, we are able to recognize your prior certifications if you transfer them to North Carolina when you get your license.

Are we allowed to drive our buses home?
Posted by:No, we do not allow for this. Our buses are held to a stringent maintenance programs and are required to stay parked at the staging area so they can be maintained by the assigned Mechanic while it is parked.

Do you provide the training to become a Bus Driver?
Posted by:Yes, we provide all the necessary training at no cost to the employee. You can learn more about that process here.

What is the starting pay and when do you get paid?
Posted by:Starting pay is $15.00 per hour. Bus Drivers are paid on the 16th of each month.

Can I drive a bus for the school that my child attends?
Posted by:We make every effort to place you on the same bus as your child rides but this is not always possible to accommodate.

How do I become a Bus Driver?

What type of certifications are required to drive a school bus?
Posted by:All WS/FCS Bus Drivers must have a valid Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.) with a Passenger and School Bus Endorsements as well as a Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) Medical Certification and a Certification Card from the State of North Carolina.

What are the benefits offered to a bus driver?
Posted by:Full-Time Bus Drivers are eligible for State Health Plan Insurance, Dental Insurance and Life Insurance.

Are Bus Drivers employed during the summer?
Posted by:Typically, Bus Drivers do not work during the summer. However, there are limited opportunities available during summer school programs. There is an internal process to determine who is eligible to work these openings.

How many hours can I expect to work a day as a Bus Driver?
Posted by:This will vary depending on the route you are assigned. You can expect to get 5 to 6 hours day when driving both a morning and afternoon route. Due to school start and end times, all full-time roles are split shift positions.
