As a parent of a student in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, you likely have questions about a number of services or resources that might be available for your student. From transportation to counseling to school nutrition, the information below will help you get the answers you need.

Advanced Learning and Academically Gifted (AIG, HAG)
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools offer different levels of advanced instruction to meet students' academic needs. Differentiation of instruction begins at the elementary level and continues through middle and high school. In our school system, the program for AIG students emphasizes development of advanced academic achievement and higher level thinking and reasoning skills. The focus for AIG students is on quality, not quantity; coursework offers greater depth, sophistication and maturity. Locally developed units of study enrich and accelerate the state curriculum to provide a challenging, rigorous learning experience. Schools have flexibility to design services that meet students' needs. The Advanced Learning department oversees the following programs: LIFT, AIG, HAG, AVID, AP and IB.

Career Technical Education (CTE)
Career Technical Education (CTE) in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is a comprehensive program serving students in Grades 6-12. The mission of the CTE program is to prepare students to be world-class workers and citizens in our global economy. Upon high school graduation and the completion of a CTE sequence of courses, students may choose to enter the workforce, to enroll in a community college or enroll in a 4-year university.

Counseling Services
School Counselors design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program that enhances and promotes student achievement, social emotional learning, and career/postsecondary development. Direct services (individual counseling, student planning sessions, group counseling, response to crises, and classroom lessons) and indirect services (collaboration and consultation with school personnel, families, and community agencies) are available. There is constant collaboration with administrators, teachers, social workers, school nurses, exceptional children case managers, and school psychologists in order to address the needs of the whole child.

Exceptional Children (EC)
The Winston/Salem Forsyth County Schools Exceptional Children's Division provides specially designed instruction to children with a broad spectrum of abilities and disabilities, striving to promote their cognitive, physical, social/emotional, and vocational development.

English as a Second Language (ESL/EL)
If you are the parent, teacher, or administrator of a student learning English as a second language, or an English Language Learner yourself, we welcome you! With 100 different languages represented in Forsyth County Schools, our programs include a variety of learning options for a diverse population of learners.

Forsyth Academy for Continuing Education (FACE)
FACE is here to support high school aged students in their efforts towards earning their diploma. We are often referred to as a night school because classes are held Monday thru Thursday nights.

Psychological Services
The Psychological Services Department seeks to positively impact the learning, behavior, and mental health outcomes for all students by providing evidence-based practices, promoting psychologically safe environments, and collaborating with others.

School Health Alliance for Forsyth County (SHA)
The School Health Alliance (SHA) for Forsyth County:
- Provides services to students, regardless of their ability to pay;
- Looks similar to a doctor’s office, but are located in our schools;
- Includes services such as comprehensive well-child and adolescent exams, immunizations, diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury, management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes, mental health assessment and treatment, health education, nutrition education, and health promotion/disease prevention programs; and
- Keeps youth in Forsyth County healthy, in school, and ready to learn.

Social Emotional Academic Learning (SEAL)
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, in collaboration with families and community partners, creates a safe, nurturing climate and culture which maximizes students' academic performance. Our culture and climate promote social and emotional well-being through caring relationships among children and adults and throughout life.

Social Workers
School Social Workers reach out to students and their families to overcome barriers that interfere with school adjustment and success. They work with individual students, small groups and families in schools, in homes and in the community. The student and family participate with the social worker to assess their needs, develop and implement an intervention plan, and involve appropriate school and community resources.

Title I Schools
The purpose of the Title I program is to help at-risk students meet the state's challenging academic content and performance standards. Schools qualify for Title I funds based on economic need.
The Title I program offers a variety of services for participating schools, which may include: additional teachers and support staff, extra time for instruction, a variety of teaching methods and materials, smaller classes, and additional training for staff.

Transportation
The Transportation Department is responsible for the provision of student transportation, scheduling of all activity trips in school buses, and community education through our School Bus Safety Team
