Mark Batten, Executive Director of Community Engagement
Mark is a girl dad to two beautiful little ladies – Claire (10) and Emerlyn (4) – and a forever supporter of his brilliant and inspiring spouse, Amanda. He enjoys taking dance breaks in the living room, building LEGO, kayaking, graphic design, and cooking. His professional mission as as the inaugural Executive Director of Community Engagement with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is to facilitate and spark collaborations that make more resonant work so that all students are empowered and lean fully into their promise and potential. Wherever he finds himself, Mark will always be inspired by his upbringing on a small farm in eastern North Carolina where he witnessed the value of relationships that can inspire us all to thrive and dream.
Before joining WS/FCS, Mark provided grant and scholarship program management for the Shallow Ford Foundation (formerly the Clemmons Community Foundation). He has also served as the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Strategic Communications at Wake Forest University School of Divinity and an adjunct faculty member for Campbell University Adult and Online Education.
Mark serves the Boards of HandsOn Northwest North Carolina, the Youth Development Division of the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, and Carolina Cross Connection, a mission-service organization that connects youth to communities locally and globally. He holds degrees from Campbell University and Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.
