    Transition to Kindergarten

    WHO:

    Children enrolled for kindergarten in a WS/FCS Elementary School who have had little or no preschool/childcare experience and select students from NCPreK, Project Impact and Head Start classrooms.  If your child has little orno prschool/childcare experience and you have not yet enrolled your child for Kindergarten you must do that before enrolling for this summer program.

    WHAT:

    A FREE summer program focused on the development of kindergarten readiness and social-emotional skills including familiarization with classroom routines, behaviors and basic academic concepts with an emphasis on Phonological Awareness. Pathway to K also engages families in a variety of ways to ensure a positive transition to school. 

    WHEN:

    Monday - Thursday, June 28 - July 29, 2021, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    Free Breakfast, Lunch and Snack included

    Open House: June 24, 2021, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at assigned site.

    WHERE:

    Parents/Guardians may choose from a virtual classroom or in-person at the following sites: Bolton, Cook, Forest Park, Gibson, Kernersville, Kimberley Park, Konnoak, North Hills, Old Town, Petree, Smith Farm, Ward, Walkertown.

    Transportation is available to and from all sites for Pathway to K students.  Parents/Guardians may also drop off and pick-up students.

    HOW: Eligible children may continue to enroll until the program is full.

Pathway to One

    Summer Program

    WHO:

    Students advancing to first grade whose MOY (Midyear) i-Ready Phonological Awareness Placement results in an Early or Emerging Level.  Students advancing to first grade whose MOY Heggerty assessment results in a Beginning Level in Rhyme Recognition, Production, Onset Fluency, Blending Phonemes OR Segmenting Words into Phonemes. Are following the general education curriculum.

    WHAT:

    Free summer program focused on narrowing the achievement gap in both academic and social-emotional skills.  Increase growth; in early literacy phonemic awareness skills, in 3 objectives of the NC Early Learning Inventory, and engage families in a variety of ways to ensure a positive transition to first grade. 

    WHEN:
