  • Dear Kingswood Families,

I am excited about a new school year with you at The Kingswood School. This is sure to be another wonderful school year and I look forward to sharing it with you and your student. We are located in a new self-contained building at 271 Mercantile Drive in Winston-Salem. Our school will still strive to maintain a safe and caring place where quality instruction is a priority. Our staff will work to meet the needs of each child assigned to us so that their academic, social, and emotional needs are met. We are enthusiastic to introduce the Alexander Youth Network as our new therapeutic provider, and we are excited about the opportunities this presents for our students and their families.

At Kingswood School, we know our true purpose is to serve the students in our care. We value our parents as educational partners, and we want to maximize our students’ potential. We will strive to foster a positive learning experience for all our students and value a positive home-school relationship. You are encouraged to volunteer in our school, attend all programs, and take an active part in your child’s success. Thank you in advance for being your child’s number teacher and cheerleader!!

We invite you to come to our school and meet your child’s teacher, visit their classroom, as well as learn about the curriculum and our classroom technology. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school at 336-703-4128, on my cell phone at 336-341-8952, or via email wlsutphin@wsfcs.k12.nc.us. My hope is that each of you, whether returning as a lion or coming for the first time, will experience success and academic growth in the coming school year. Our staff and I eagerly await your arrival and welcome you to what is to be a fun and rewarding 2023-24 school year.

    Respectfully,

    William L. Sutphin

    Asst. Principal

    The Kingswood School K-12

    General Reminders and Procedures

Our school day will begin at 7:30 a.m. for all grades, and dismissal is at 2:00 p.m. If your students arrive late, they should report to the front office and ask for the administrator of Kingswood, and I or a designee will come to escort your student to class.

    Bus Riders & Alternate Stops

If you need an alternate bus stop for your student other than the address listed as your home, you can contact me, Mr. Sutphin, by phone or via email. You may also contact the main office of The Kingswood School and speak with one of our secretaries so that they can relay the request.

    Car Rider Line

Car riders will be picked up on the side of the building. To maintain student safety, we will have a staff member to assist in loading and unloading students in the mornings and afternoons.

    Volunteers

We welcome parents and families to volunteer at our school. If you are interested, you must register with the district. If you are interested, please speak with Mr. Sutphin or contact our front office on The Kingswood School campus.

    Breakfast & Lunch

Breakfast and lunch are free for all students. All students will be given a lunch number. It is important your student learns this number. Returning students will have the same number.

    Front Office

All school visitors need to sign in at the front office and receive an identification sticker to wear. The front office staff will assist you with this process if needed. Also, you should be aware that children will only be released to the adults listed on the pick-up section of this form. Adults will be asked for identification before students are released into their care. Students may not be picked up directly from their classrooms by anyone.

    Medications

Please make sure all paperwork is complete if your child needs to take medication here at school. Our school nurse or front office staff will help you in any way possible. Keep in mind, that NO medication should be sent to school with your child.

    Custody Issues

If there are custody issues we need to be made aware of, please let us know as soon as possible. We will need a copy of any court-ordered agreements on file in our front office. These can be brought in at any time. We will honor all arrangements dictated by court orders.

    Communications

Information will be disseminated to parents through newsletters, teacher Canvas sites, the Remind app, and Phone Tree messages. Please do not hesitate to ask questions!!
