• My name is Douglas Smith and I could not be more excited to join the Wiley Magnet Middle School Family.  This will be my 15th year in education and my first as a full-time administrator after serving as an Assistant Principal Intern last year at East Forsyth Middle School.

I received my Bachelor of Science in History and Political Science in 2006 and Teaching Licensure in 2008 from Greensboro College.  I began my teaching career in Caswell County Schools.  I also served in Guilford County, Davie County, and Cabarrus County.  I have spent the last seven years in Forsyth, teaching American History at East Forsyth High School and my internship year at East Middle.  I completed my Master’s in Educational Leadership at High Point University in May of 2022 as a member of the High Point Leadership Academy, Cohort 6.  I began working on my Doctorate of Educational Leadership at UNCG in the Summer of 2022.

I am a native of Davie County and currently live there with my wife, son, and three boxers.  We enjoy spending our summers at the pool, traveling to antique malls, shopping at Goodwill, and spending time with friends.  I am a big sports fan (go Duke! Dodgers! Commanders!) and a giant MCU nerd!

I fell in love with Middle School during this past year after having spent my career teaching in High School.  Middle School students have such a vibrant love for school and belonging to a community.  I love helping guide Middle School students as they navigate their teenage years and form the core of the young adults they will become.  I believe in personal responsibility, civic/community engagement, and raising the bar for yourself academically.

I cannot wait to start the year and be a member of the Wolverine Family.
