October 10-14, 2022 marks National School Lunch Week (NSLW)—a special week of celebration designated to bring positive attention to the School Lunch Program and the impact it has on our school community.
Districtwide we have an average of 24,475 students participate in our lunch program daily and we all know that students need full bellies from healthy meals to learn and focus. Studies show that school lunches are healthier than typical packed lunches, and that balanced nutrition throughout the day contributes to student success in and out of the classroom.
Since the theme is “Peace, Love & School Lunch”, we are decorating the cafeterias with some GROOVY décor and we will be rockin’ tie-dyed t-shirts and hippie glasses on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Every day will be a Lucky Lunch Tray Day for elementary students and they will have a chance to win a NIFTY prize every day (buttons, silicone bracelets, temporary tattoos, tie-dyed airplanes and slap bracelets). In secondary schools, we are giving away groovy vinyl stickers to random students that get lunch meals during the week for their water bottles, folders, cellphones, etc.
We look forward to celebrating National School Lunch Week with students and school staff to make this time fun for your students.
