Congratulations to Riley Walser in Mrs. Franklin's 5th grade class for receiving the Human Relations Award for Community Outreach on behalf of the City of Winston-Salem.  The Human Relations Student Awards recognize and encourage youth who demonstrate positive attitudes and perform community service, engaging with all people regardless of race, color, national origin, and exceptionality.
Riley was selected to receive this very special award because she and her dad are extremely active with the outreach ministries at their church, Journey Church. They help with food and clothing for homeless shelters. Riley gives her own clothing and items for children at these shelters. Riley really enjoys giving. She likes taking the food herself and seeing how happy people are to receive their services.
We are so very proud of Riley for her outreach to the community with her church and her willingness to help others and showing her PRIDE not only at school but throughout the community as well, congratulations Riley!

This year, the Human Relations Commission, in partnership with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and the City of Winston-Salem Marketing and Communications Department, will host an online program to celebrate the student awardees. The program will air on February 23 at 6:30 p.m. on the City's YouTube Channel, which can be found at City of Winston-Salem - YouTube
