The state of North Carolina has recently announced a new summer program to assist families in purchasing nutritious food. SUN Bucks is a program through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services giving qualifying families a one-time payment of $120 per school-aged child.

The great news is families identified as having a child (or children) who attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) will be notified with an invitation to apply for SUN Bucks through either text and/or email. Instructions on how to apply will be included. The application period will begin May 1st and run through August 31st. Payments are expected to begin mid-June and continue through September.

Families who are not contacted but feel they may be eligible can print an application from the NC DHHS website www.ncdhhs.gov/sunbucks. You can also visit this website to view Frequently Asked Questions about this program. For any questions not answered on the website, please reach out to the SUN Bucks Call Center at 1-866-719-0141 or 1-888-622-7328.
