Battle of the BooksMeets on Thursdays from 3:00 - 4:00 in the Media Center.
Advisor: Ms. Ruth Wilcox, Media Coordinator email@example.comThis program is for middle school students, Years I, II, and III. Students at participating schools read books from a list established by the state Battle of the Books committee, and then compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments to test their knowledge of these books.
The Battle of the Books team is comprised of students who love reading! We meet for practice to prepare for competition against other middle schools in the county. The team is formed early in the year so that we may practice often and learn to work as a team. A lot of recall is necessary to succeed and a strong team learns the value of relying on each other’s strengths.
Our annual competition takes place in March at our Central Offices. Students read books from a selected list of titles. The State BOB committee selects this list annually. When we compete, the questions are phrased as – In which book …..
The team member will then respond with the title and author. Students who make the team in the 6th grade often continue in grades 7 and 8. These “seasoned” players urge new members along and most often start reading the upcoming titles over the summer.
The winning team in the county competition goes on to play in the regional games. This is a great club for the student who loves reading, discussing books and authors and finally competing against other students with similar talent. Battle of the Books truly enriches and supports the total academic experience at Paisley IB Magnet School.
