This year as a seventh grade we study the second part of World History (Renaissance - Modern Times).

Through the study of history students acquire an understanding of the past and how the past impacts the present. A study of history allows students to view themselves as part of a larger global community. Likewise, through the study of history young people become more adept readers of expository text. They are also given the opportunity to practice critical thinking skills, needed skills for the 21st century.

Studying world history is an appropriate course of study for middle school because it
    allows young
people to challenge themselves academically as they explore the world around them and their place within this world.
