FREE/REDUCED MEAL PROGRAM AND APPLICATION PROCESS
Ø Parents are not required to apply to the meal program.
Ø Federally we are required to offer a Family Application which allows parents to submit one form listing all children in the family.
Ø Applications must be made available to every child.
Ø Completed applications go to the Cafeteria Manager. The Cafeteria Manager will review for accuracy and will deliver applications to the Child Nutrition Office.
Ø According to federal regulations we are required to notify families of their benefits.
Ø Elementary and Middle All applicants will be notified by the Child Nutrition Office.
Ø High School All applicants will be notified by the Child Nutrition Office.
School Opening Procedures:
Ø During the first 30 days of school, students are allowed to obtain services based on last years status. [EX: Paid last year, Paid on August 25, Reduced last year, Reduced on August 25, Free last year, Free on August 25]
Ø During the first 30 days of school, siblings [not enrolled last year] of Free/Reduced participants from last year may receive benefits until the family application is processed. This covers Kindergarten children with older siblings. Parents and/or Teachers need to communicate sibling information to the Cafeteria Manager regarding Kindergarten children.
Ø In October current rosters will become effective. Principals will be notified prior to the transfer date. NO child will be allowed to use previous meal status after the cut off date.
Ø Students without money will receive a Voucher Meal. This is according to Board of Education Policy AR 3542. Principals have the option of establishing a cash plan to provide meal money to students. Child Nutrition personnel may not handle school funds or maintain record keeping for cash funds.
Ø Newly enrolled students and kindergartners [without siblings that were approved program participants last year] pay for ALL meals. Principals have the option of establishing a cash plan to provide meal money to students. Child Nutrition personnel may not handle school funds or maintain record keeping.
Ø Out of district students must submit a current application and be processed to receive benefits.
