American High School Math Competition
This competition is held in February of each academic year as the
AMC-10 and AMC-12 contests. The target students for the AMC-10 are
ninth or tenth grade PreCalculus students. The target students for the
AMC-12 are seniors having had AP Calculus AB or BC. These contests
consist of twenty-five question multiple choice exams to be done within
a seventy-five minute time constraint. No calculators are permitted.
The top five percent of the AMC-12 scorers nationally will qualify for
the next competition called the American Invitational Math Exam (AIME).
This is a fifteen question, three hour exam in which each answer is an
integer between 0 and 999.
The top one percent of the AMC-10 scorers nationally will qualify for the AIME.
