PTA Membership FAQ
What is PTA? PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy organization in America. Today's PTA is a diverse group, comprised of more than 4 million people who share a commitment to improving the education, health, and safety of all children. We speak with one voice for every child. Our local PTA at JES is a member of the NCPTA, which is a branch of the National PTA.
Why join PTA? The number one reason to join the JES PTA is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help our school, but there are other benefits of membership:
- Get Connected. There's no better way to know what's happening at JES.
- Discover Great Resources. Our local PTA at JES as well as the NCPTA and National PTA offer a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.
- Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you will show your child the importance you place on education.
- Enjoy Substantial Benefits. Membership benefits include magazine subscriptions, leadership training, e-newsletters and retail discounts. You may find that your $7 membership pays for itself!
Is PTA membership open to other people in addition to JES teachers and parents? Yes! Anyone with an interest in supporting the education and well-being of JES children and all children is invited to join our PTA. We are trying to grow our membership numbers this year and have set a goal of one PTA member per JES student. To help us reach this goal, we hope you will join and encourage your child's grandparents, neighbors, and others in your network to join the JES PTA this year.
If I join, do I need to volunteer and attend meetings? No, but we hope you will! Attending and participating in PTA meetings are both excellent ways for you to help make positive changes at JES. And, by volunteering with our PTA, you can put your skills and talents toward making JES the best place possible for our children to learn.
How can I sign up? Look for a membership form in your child's Tuesday folder the second week of school, and please return the completed form with cash or check for $10 per membership to school in your child's Tuesday folder. Couples in the same household may sign up on the same form. Please include both names on the form and include the payment for two memberships.
