    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hello, and welcome to Konnoak Elementary! I am  looking forward to working with you and your child! TOGETHER, we can make this a wonderful year!

In order for your child to be successful, it is very important that you are aware and understand first grade expectations, I have compiled the following information to answer some of the questions that you may have concerning rules, procedures, and curriculum for first grade.

    - baby wipes

    - Clorox wipes

    - tissues

    - liquid hand soap

    - hand sanitizer

RESPONSIBILITY: Your child is responsible for completing his/her

    home/school work.

HOMEWORK: Homework will be sent home on Mon. for the entire week. Please make an effort to read with your child each night. Please work with your child on our first grade words, they will be assessed each nine weeks. Daily practice of these words is ESSENTIAL! (We will begin the year with Kindergarten words.) Math and writing will also be assigned as needed.

TARDIES: Weekly assessments will be given on the skills drilled. It is very important that     your child be punctual in order to practice these skills.

GRADES: First grade students will be assessed quarterly in Math, Reading, and
Writing. Assessment scores will be used to determine grade level proficiency. Please
encourage your child. Remember, attitude can affect performance!

VIP FOLDERS: VIP folders will go home every Tuesday! Please watch for important notes      and/or papers in this folder! Only sign the "Parent Signature Sheet" inside the VIP folder when there is a progress report sent home. Please return folders the following day!
DISCIPLINE: Taking time out from teaching to discipline children disrupts the entire class. Please discuss the importance of LISTENING and FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS, NOT TALKING DURING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME, and BEING KIND TO OTHERS. If your child refuses to follow procedures, a phone call will be place of employment. Unruly conduct WILL NOT be tolerated! Konnoak is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Support) school. Please refer to your PBIS pamphlet for more information.

FIELD TRIPS: Please look for permission slips in your child's folder. Please be sure to complete the forms and return ASAP!

VOLUNTEERS: If you plan to volunteer, you MUST fill out a volunteer form at least 30 days before you plan to volunteer.  (Even for field trips!) Volunteer forms are located in the front office and should be given to Ms McCoy. We love volunteers here at Konnook. If you come in to volunteer, please sign in at the office!

TRANSPORTATION: Please note this on your child's information card. Transportation changes for your child should be sent by note the morning of the change. If no note, your child will travel home as usual. If there is an emergency, please call the office by 12:00 p.m. Also, please notify office and teacher of any address or number changes!

STUDENT HANDBOOK: Please read over your child's handbook with them! No birthday parties in the classrooms! Only STORE BOUGHT (Health Dept.) cookies or cupcakes may be passed out during their lunch time!

**Please read and complete all forms included in your child's folder. Return the required forms as soon as possible. If you have any questions and /or concerns, please contact us at 703-4163. We look forward to a wonderful first grade!
                                                                                              Thanks,   Mrs. Hoover
