• The ABC's of Kindergarten

     

     

     A is for Arrival, Absences and Allergies
     

    Arrival- School begins at 8:20 am. Students may enter the room at 8:00 am to prepare for the day. Students who arrive prior to 8:00 am need to go to the cafeteria. School will be dismissed at 2:50 pm.

    Absences- If your child is absent, a note stating the reason for the absence must be brought to school as soon as possible to avoid an unexcused absence. Please include the date that your child was absent and sign the note.

    Allergies- Please report any allergies. Especially if your child has food allergies and insect bite reactions.

     

    B  is for BEE Books, Birthdays and Book Orders
     

    BEE Books- These help keep us organized. The three-ring binder will contain the homework calendar and notebook, behavior report, money pouch, and other items that assist with communication between home and school. Please review and initial your childs Bee Book nightly.

    Birthdays- If you would like to send a birthday treat with your child on or near his/her birthday please contact me. We eat birthday treats during lunch.  We also recognize class birthdays during Calendar time.  Pretend birthdays will be scheduled at the end of the school year for those children that have summer birthdays.

    Book Orders- Scholastic book orders will be sent home each month. If you want to place an order, please make checks payable to Scholastic. It may take up to two weeks for orders to be delivered.
     
    Cis for Communication and Conferences
     

    Communication- Communication is important. Feel free to contact us whenever you have a question, comment, or concern. I can be reached by phone (924.3434), in person, by email abonner@wsfcs.k12.nc.us or by note.

    Conference- Conferences are held at the end of the first and third quarter. Look for upcoming dates and times.

     

    Dis for Dismissal
     

    Dismissal- Dismissal is at 2:50 pm. Please do not walk to the classroom to get your child. We will walk your child to his/her designated area.

    F is for Fieldtrips 
     
    Fieldtrips- Each year Kindergarten takes two field trips. Information about these trips will come home in the BEE book and will be detailed in the field trip permission slip and online newsletter.  Permission forms will come home in Bee books please sign and return as soon as possible.
     

     

    G is for Gym 
     

    Gym- Gym days will be listed in the online weekly newsletter and on the Calendar on my webpage. Please have your child wear tennis shoes on PE days.

     

    His for Homework
     

    Homework- A monthly homework calendar will be sent home in the BEE book. Please complete all written work in the homework notebook.

     

    Iis for Independence
     

     Independence- Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence. Kindergarteners are capable of doing many things on their own and I encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom. Please work on the following skills at home with your child: zipping, tying, dressing, etc.

     

    Jis for Journals
     

    Journals- We write everyday in Kindergarten. Several times a week, the students, will be writing on a variety of topics in his/her writing journals. Please encourage writing at home. 

     

    K is for Kindness 
     

    Kindness- Students in our classroom are encouraged and expected to treat all members of our class, as well as others in the school, with kindness and respect. Bothering others and interrupting learning will not be permitted.

     

    Lis for Lunch
     

    Lunch- Our lunch time is from 10:53-11:23 If lunch money is sent to school, please send it in the money pouch located in the BEE book. You may also prepay through the cafeteria manager. Student lunch prices are in the Family Handbook.

     

    Mis for Meetings
     

    Meetings- Due to staff meetings, staff development trainings, committee work, supervision duties, etc. we as teachers are often not available to meet before or after school unless you have a scheduled appointment. School policy is that you stop in the office and ask the staff to call our room to see if we are available to speak with you. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

     

    Nis for Newsletters and Nightly Reading
     

    Newsletters- A weekly newsletter will be posted online to keep you informed about what is happening in our class.

    Nightly Reading- Nightly reading is essential for future success. Take home readers will begin in October. Please read nightly to your child or have your child read to you.

     

    O is for Office Staff and Opportunities
     

    Office Staff- We at Meadowlark have the best office staff! The following are the names of those that you may need to contact at some time throughout the year: Principal; Dr. Neil Raymer, Assistant Principal; Mr. Shane O'Neal.

    Opportunities for involvement are numerous. Book Buddies   Please check out or class web page.

     

     

     

    Pis for Parent Involvement

     

    Parent Involvement- We love parent involvement! There will be many opportunities for you to volunteer in the classroom throughout the year. Please look for volunteer sign ups for everything from Friday readers to class parties, etc. This information will be listed in the online newsletter and on our class webpage.

     

     

     

    Qis for Questions
     

    Questions- Please feel free to call, email, or send a note. We will do our best to respond quickly to any questions you may have.

     

    Ris for Report Cards, Reading and Recess

     

    Report Cards- Report Cards are sent home after each nine weeks.

    Reading- Read to your child daily and let your children see you reading. It encourages them to become good readers.

    Recess- Our class will go to recess daily from 1:35-2:05  Please make sure that your child wears tennis shoes each day for play.

     

    Sis for Snacks, Supplies

     

    Snacks- We will be having a morning snack each day. Please send in a snack for your child. Due to allergies, students are not allowed to share food.

    Supplies- Please make sure you read the newsletter class needs will be posted.
     

    Tis for Tardies,Transportation and Toys

     

    Tardies- Students who arrive to school after 8:20 am  are considered tardy and will have to sign in at the front office.

    Transportation- If your child has any changes in his/her transportation please let us know in writing.

    Toys- No toys are to be brought to school.

     

    Uis for Unique

     

    Unique- Each student in our class is unique and wonderful. We will learn about how we are unique and special, and we will celebrate our differences and similarities.

     

    Vis for Visitors

     

    Visitors- Meadowlark has a policy that all guests/visitors are required to check in at the school office and wear a visitor's pass. It is the goal and responsibility of the school to create a safe learning environment.

     

    W is for Wet and Dirty Clothes

     

    Wet and dirty clothes- Wet and dirty clothes can be uncomfortable. Please send in an extra set of clothing (shirt, pants, socks, underclothes) in a Ziploc baggie marked with your child's name. These will be stored in the classroom.

     

    Xis for X-tra Special and eXciting

     

    X-tra special and eXciting- Kindergarten is such an eXciting year! We consider each child eXtra special and want to thank you bor sharing them with us!

    Your Ideas- Your ideas and suggestions are welcome!

     

    Zis for Zzzzz's

     

    Zzzzz's- It is important for your child to be rested and ready for each day. Set a bedtime and be consistent. It will help your child to be prepared to learn each day.
