Learning StrategiesHere are some writing strategies that we have talked about in class. If you don't know a word, you can... *go FIND it-look in the room, in the school, in a book, on a chart, on a game, etc. *S-T-R-E-T-C-H it out like a rubber band. Listen to each sound you hear, write it down. *Ask yourself "is it a LONG word or a SHORT word?" *Ask yourself "does it sound like any other word I already know how to spell?" *Ask a friend to help spell it.
WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCEED AT HOME 1. Read with your child. Listen to your child and help them with comprehension and fluency. 2. Ask your child questions about what they have read. Questions could be about the characters, setting, problem(s) in the story, or simply about their favorite part(s) in the story. 3. Review math facts. 4. Go over homework. Contact me if your child is having any problems. 5. Read over and study weekly spelling words with your child. Check to see if they understand spelling patterns and word meanings. 6. Check your child's planner and backpack daily for important notes and daily work that has been sent home. 7. Encourage your child to do his/her BEST!
