Welcome to Ms. Humphrey's First Grade Class
Hi! My name is Mrs. Humphrey. I love teaching first grade at Old Richmond School. It is my very favorite elementary school. I even went here when I was a little girl! I received my teaching degree at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. My husband and I have five children, five small grandchildren, four cats, and two dogs, so my life is full of fun and exciting activities. I also enjoy reading and spending time with my friends. I enjoy running and finished up this summer by participating in a 5K race with my husband. I am looking forward to a successful year, full of learning, with this wonderful class. We will be learning many skills in reading, writing, math, social studies and science. In science we will be discovering which habitats make good homes for different types of animals. In social studies we will be learning that rules are important at home, at school, and in our communities. In reading we will continue a new reading program called "Imagine-It!" In math, first graders will be exploring and practicing putting numbers in order, adding, subtracting, and solving word problems. Most importantly, we will be learning to respect each other and to treat others as we would want to be treated. We will be discussing cultures here and around the world and understanding that all people are interesting and special and have similar needs and emotions. This school is a safe place to explore and express new ideas. We will have fun meeting new friends and learning and growing together.
