CURRICULUM
- North Carolina is using the Common Core Standards. They can be found here: https://www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us/domain/7423
- Grading is based on tests (40%), quizzes (30%), classwork (20%), homework and participation (10%). You will need to online for your child’s grades. If you do not have Internet access, please let me know.
- For each day a student is absent, he/she will have 3 days to complete missed work. I will provide make-up work on the day he/she returns.
Math: Topics in math include place value, problem solving, measurement, multiplication, long division, FRACTIONS, decimals, and geometry, including measuring angles.
Reading: We will read a variety of both fiction and nonfiction. I am big on novel study and we will ready many wonderful pieces of literature. We will work on our comprehension and analysis skills as we go back in the text to find answers and clues.
Writing: We will use Words Their Way for spelling and Wordly Wise for Vocabulary. We will improve our writing skills while developing narratives, opinion papers, and informative pieces.
Science: We will study Earth & Moon Rotation, Fossils, Rocks & Minerals, Animal Adaptations, Electricity & Magnetism, and Healthy Eating.
Social Studies: Fourth grade focuses on North Carolina history, as well as people, places, and symbols of our state. Get ready for all things NC!
