• Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

We are so excited that you will be on the Dubois/Lloyd team this year for 5th grade!   We are looking forward to a fantastic time of learning and fun.  The following information is designed to help answer questions you might have.  Let us know if you need clarification or if you have additional questions.

    Classroom Information

    Grading Scale
    NEW SCALE 2015-16 and beyond
    A 90-100
    B 80-89
    C 70-79
    D 60-69
    F 59 and below
Most assignments will be graded according to the above scale with the exception of special assignments, projects, group activities, and some writing papers. The final grade in a subject will not be a straight average.   Assignments will be weighted as follows:
    35%- Tests
    30%- Classwork
    25%- Quizzes
    10%- Participation
    Discipline Policy
We will be using a Choice Book this year.  After a warning, your child will be asked to sign the Choice Book where he/she will state what behavior he/she needs to change.  Following a warning, your child will receive a consequence if the undesired behavior continues. If a third offense occurs on the same day, a parent contact will be made.  A fourth offense in the same day will warrant a discipline referral.  Any critical choices such as fighting, stealing, etc. will be sent directly to the office.  These policies will be explained to the students in detail.  The students and I will set up the classroom rules and guidelines together. It is going to be a great year, and having a discipline policy in place will ensure that students know the expectations and consequences that are designed to help everyone feel safe and get the most out of their educational experience.
Your child is welcome to bring a healthy snack to enjoy each day at school.  Please make sure that your child doesn't bring cans of soda to drink, items that require refrigeration, or sugary snacks.  (Water only as a beverage, please!)
Any time you and/or your child have concerns, we would like to address them with you.  The best way to contact us is by e-mail at  jllloyd@wsfcs.k12.nc.us  or sdubois@wsfcs.k12.nc.us.  If it's not a question we can answer via e-mail, we would be happy to call you after school.  We are also available to meet with you for conferences before or after school by appointment.  We look forward to working with you to make this a great school year for your child!
Parent Portal- If you don't have your access code to look at your child's grades, please contact the front office.  You can see your child's grades 24/7.  This is a great way for you to keep track of his/her assignments, progress, and work habits.  (771-4545)
