• My name is Mrs. Katrina Sutcliffe. I am entering my eleventh year of teaching here at Southwest Elementary! I am originally from the Finger Lakes region of New York State, where I taught for five years before moving to North Carolina. I hold a Bachelor's degree in both Elementary and Special Education, and received my Master's degree in Childhood Education as well. I am the fourth generation of teachers in my family, and am proud to carry on my family tradition here at Southwest.  I look forward to sharing many wonderful memories and experiences with you and your child throughout our journey together.
Homework assignment sheets will be given out each week for standard assignments to be completed. These will always consist of spelling and reading. Occasional assignments will involve a topic we may have covered in class that needs a bit of extra practice. Look for any homework information in your child's planner.
We will discover amazing things in our year together. Here are some of the topics we will study: Life Cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly, Sounds, Weather, Community, Changes over time, Money, Time, Fractions, Addition and Subtraction, Writing Skills, Reading fabulous books together, and Much More!
The students at Southwest are some of the best characters around! This is true because of the many individuals that touch their lives every day. Find, recognize, and praise these qualities in your child as often as possible: Responsibility, Respect, Self-discipline, Caring, Integrity, Perseverance, and Courage.
Encourage your child to read, read, read! Try to find time to have "Book Talks" at dinner, or on the weekends. If you share the interest with your child, it will become a family affair!
